“The Sundance of web series festivals” – Los Angeles Magazine
The Los Angeles Web Series Festival (a.k.a. LAWEBFEST) is the oldest, largest and most popular web series festival in the world. Established in 2010 by Emmy-winning TV producer & 4-time NAACP Image Award-winning producer & playwright Michael Ajakwe Jr., LAWEBFEST was created to showcase, promote, and reward as many deserving web series as possible and provide a unique networking platform, especially for independent producers who make 90% of all web series. LAWEBEST has since grown into the international destination spot for the web series industry as thousands of enthusiasts flock to Los Angeles each year from all over the United States and the world to screen, study and celebrate this new form of entertainment that seems to have infected the planet. Since the goal of LAWEBFEST is to expose and educate the web series community and audience, we’ve also presented nearly 200 panels and educational workshops dealing with all aspects of web series production, distribution and marketing. We have partnerships with other international web series festivals around the U.S. and the world—France (Marseille Webfest). South Korea (KWebfest), Australia (Melbourne Webfest), Italy (Rome Webfest), Germany (Webfest Berlin), Brazil (Rio Webfest), Canada (Webfest Montreal), Italy (Sicily Webfest) —and friendly affiliations with even more. Though we primarily cater to those who are making outstanding shows via independent financing, we also showcase established, traditional media brands that are working in the online storytelling space like the Screen Actors Guild, Writers Guild of America, Warner Bros. Digital and 21st Century Fox Digital.
Held its first two years at the now-defunct 140-seat Stage 52 Theater in South Central Los Angeles, the fest moved to the Radisson Hotel LAX (now Hyatt Concourse LAX) from 2012-14. In 2015, LAWEBFEST moved to the 5-star Hilton Los Angeles/ Universal City—located across the street from the famed Universal Studios. LAWEBFEST 2016 is April 22-24 at legendary Warner Bros. Studios, making us the first web series festival to be held at a major Hollywood studio.
LAWEBFEST is in partnership with The Sheila Yusef Foundation, a 501(c)3 corporation , which supports tutoring, mentoring and after-school programs for troubled and at-risk inner-city youths. So advertising and sponsorship buys, donations and gifts are all tax deductible.
