Michael Ajakwe Jr. Founder/Executive Director, LAWEBFEST

LAWEBFEST is the oldest, largest, most popular and influential web series festival in the world. Established in 2010 by Emmy-winning TV producer & 4-time NAACP Image Award-winning producer & playwright Michael Ajakwe Jr., LAWEBFEST was created to celebrate, showcase and reward amazing shows by talented (and often overlooked) independent producers. [Indie productions account for over 95% of all web series being made around the world.]   Since the city of Los Angeles is the No. 1 producer of film, television and web series worldwide, LAWEBFEST provides a rich unique networking platform for online creative talents and technicians to share, learn, grow and become even better filmmakers.

The goal of LAWEBFEST is to not only expose outstanding shows being made in this new medium, but also to educate the web series community and audience. To that end, we’ve presented nearly 200 panels and workshops dealing with all aspects of web series creation, production, distribution, and marketing– domestically and internationally. We have partnerships with other web-specific festivals around the globe– Florida (SoFloWebfest), France (Marseille Webfest). South Korea (KWebfest), Australia (Melbourne Webfest), Italy (Rome Webfest, Sicily Webfest), Germany (Webfest Berlin), Brazil (Rio Webfest), Canada (Webfest Montreal)– and friendly affiliations with even more. Though we strongly believe in putting the spotlight on independently produced shows, we also showcase established, traditional media brands working in the online storytelling space like the Screen Actors Guild, Writers Guild of America, Warner Bros. Digital and 21st Century Fox Digital.

Held its first two years at the 100-seat Stage 52 Theater in South Los Angeles, the fest moved to the Radisson LAX Hotel from 2012-14. In 2015, LAWEBFEST took place at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City— across the street from famed Universal Studios. In 2016, we made history as the first webfest ever held at a major Hollywood studio (Warner Brothers). In 2017, history repeated itself when LAWEBFEST had a playdate at Sony Pictures Entertainment Studios, which is also the home of the festival in 2018.

LAWEBFEST is in partnership with The Sheila Yusef Foundation, a 501(c)3 corporation [2759650], which supports tutoring, mentoring and after-school programs for troubled and at-risk inner-city youths. So advertising and sponsorship buys, donations and gifts are all tax deductible.
